In the 1990s, I was a fairly active fan of the series Xena: Warrior Princess. Wanting to expand my skill set, I decided that I needed to practice doing digital painting. I chose one of the characters, Callisto (played by the lovely Hudson Leick), to be the subject of the first portrait I’d attempt painting in Photoshop using a tablet. Even though I’d long done portraits in pencil, it was a very interesting exercise. For what it is (especially the small size), I think it was a fair effort. Hudson has seen it and was kind enough to sign of print of it for me, so it couldn’t have been too bad.
