Pocket Memory

Jul 31st, 2006 | By CJ | Category: Journal

Some days are the sort you wish you could wrap up and put in your pocket, ready for those moments when you could use some reassurance that life is good. I’m not saying that today was a perfect day, but it was an enjoyable one.

The main focus of the day was to practice airbrush tattooing on a couple of young friends who I love spending time with. Well, the actually timing of the practice got SNAFUed, but that didn’t really much matter…we all finally made it to the shop so I could practice. First though, and a surprise to me, I needed to practice on the owner’s grandchildren. As these seven-year-olds had a tendency to wriggle and squirm some, it served as a challenging real-world simulation of spraying on the tattoos without goofing it up.

Then the torrential rains came. Me? I barely noticed, but the younguns got all scared and dramatic (the small stream flowing down from the ceiling wasn’t helping), which eventually led to them going home. That left me to practice on Tess and Scarlet for a couple of hours. We had a really good time. These two (and their sister) are as close to daughters as I’m ever going to have, and I love them dearly. As we joked around while I was applying tattoos, we got to share an experience that we’ll likely bring up from time-to-time over the years. I treasure those memories….and I did tell them before we set out that we all would have a most excellent adventure.

Oh, the tattoos? The practice session accomplished what I’d hoped. I gained the confidence to work on non-family people. While there are some small imperfections that gnaw on perfectionist me, for the most part I’m satisfied (though not nearly as much as my friends tell me they are). I’m going to break with a convention of this blog, and I’ll post a few photos here in the article.
