Under New Ownership

Jun 26th, 2007 | By CJ | Category: Journal

When I was at work on Saturday, Suzie G.* came in and told me that she’d sold the shop. Not only that, but that the new owners would be taking over a week from Monday.

Wow.

It’s not that it was a huge surprise. There had been some fairly obvious clues that people were interested in the shop, and Suzie’s husband has been ailing badly recently, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to think that a sale was a possibility. Honestly, I would have appreciated a little more warning, but I don’t really have any control over that.

Now that a few days have passed, I’m still unsettled. Mostly it’s due to the fact that my situation is currently undefined. I don’t know if the new owners are interested in having me continue on. If they are, are they willing to give me a decent enough deal to warrent me giving up my time (Suzie had a great advantage in that I was helping out a friend)? Shoot, I don’t even know if I’m working this weekend, Suzie’s last as the legal owner. See what I’m saying? Unsettled.

On Sunday, though totally uncertain if it was my last day, I took a moment before I locked up, and said goodbye to the shop. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little verklempt. The shop was a great catalyst for things still going on in my life. It got me back into airbrushing and into fine art. It was also a source of some great times. I met some really neat people. Maybe I still have a day or two left to work there — maybe more. But if not, at least I was able to find a moment of closure…and sometimes that key.
