The Connor Wars F0301 – “A Thousand Miles”

May 5th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: TTSCC

And so it begins.

Here is the first installment of Terminator – The Sarah Connor Chronicles fanfic that picks up where the second season finale left off. As I mentioned before, I was so enthusiastic about the possibilities presented when the season ended that I just had to keep it going regardless of what happens with the suits at FOX.

The first thing you’ll probably notice is that I changed the name of the series to Terminator: The Connor Wars. I think that more accurately conveys what this project will cover as well as it being a lot easier to say.

As I disclaim on the title page, this is just meant to be a bit of fannish fun in the long spirit of the various fan communities. I’m not intending to step on any toes.

I should also say that anyone connected with the show should bail out now so your legal department doesn’t get mad at you (assuming of course the show hasn’t been shuttered).

A Thousand Miles

This effort represents some of my writing philosophy that sometimes gets mentioned in my various blogs. Action. Answers. Questions. Enigmas. Strong females. It’s pretty much what I’ve always been drawn to write. I make no warranty that any of this is any good. This is the first teleplay I’ve written in well over ten years, and some of the rust does show from time to time. (On that note, please forgive any lingering typos. Thanks.)

Obviously the character that was the most challenging to write was Allison. We’ve had scant information about her. I’ve had to not only extrapolate from what we saw in “Allison From Palmdale”, but I also had to do what writers (other than me) get paid to do and just make up stuff. I hope you find this Allison intriguing and maybe even a little familiar.

Since this is a series restart, I took the liberty of bulking up the budget with SFX and the necessary new sets. I know I went over budget, it was intentional.

I hope you won’t be shy about leaving comments or debate points with each other either here or in the newly created discussion area in the forum for this episode.

For those who wonder about such things: the first draft was written in six days. I decided that that Sarah/Ellison/Savannah B-story I had wasn’t working so I cut it out and wrote a new one for the second draft. The second draft was written in three days. After that, it was just a quick polish (couple of hours) to what you see here.

(With the size it is, the PDF seems to read easier if you zoom to 66.7% and then scroll the text horizontally so it’s centered.)

Next episode: F0302 – Tempest Tossed

Oh, and before I get emails about this. The PDF file I generated has the setting to allow people to print out the script turned off. If you are having trouble with the plug-in, click here.

  1. Coolio, loving the Allison/John interactions. Also liking John himself, he never seemed that confident up until “Today is the day(2)” when he confronted Jesse. Nice job of continuing his development into THE John Connor!

    Can’t wait for episode 2!

  2. I’m looking forward to developing the Allison/John relationship. I also wanted to make it plain that John’s main purpose here is to become “the” John Connor. Unlike before, he doesn’t have the 15-20 years post-JD to do it. He needs to do it much faster…fast enough that it can be captured within the limitations of a typical TV schedule.

    Thanks for reading and commenting.

  3. Nuts. I didn’t always get my abbreviations right. E.g. on page 24 I wrote “500 km” instead of “500 m”. Oops. See, those are the sorts of typos I’d like you to forgive.

    sigh

  4. Great Great writing!!! Keep up the great work. I feel like Im actually watching it on TV

  5. I’m starting to get into a rhythm and the season is starting to unfold. I’m just as interested as y’all have been as to how it turns out.

  6. So you know, I found a small continuity error in dialog, corrected it, and updated the online copy. It is a ref to John’s age on page 11. It doesn’t materially affect the story being told, but since I’m able to fix it, I did.

  7. hello there cj i was going to start reading your season 3 but for some reason the first episodes pdf is not posted like the other episodes .any chance of helping me out with this and sending me in the right direction . thanks

  8. @bigtrev – So far it’s worked here with the browsers I have available… both the embed and the link. I’ve checked the code and it appears correct (which would follow since I’m not having any problems here). If this doesn’t magically resolve itself, could you supply more info? Thnx.

  9. thanks for the quick reply ..
when i clicked on the link to the first episode .after the first bit of text there is a blank space where the pdf should be like the other episodes showing the first page of it . when you said everything seems to be working alright i went back and checked and found the link

this was under episode 2 so i never seen it first time round lol
this seemed to bring up the first episode so its all good :-)
im looking forward to reading them .thanks again

  10. due to my occupation I haven’t had time to watch TTSCC on TV. I’ve only just finished watching both Seasons in one go after purchasing both DVD sets last week. I was hooked straightaway with the great angsty characters and plots. Its a pity that TPTB still ignore fans by looking at ratings and letting a great story go.
So its up to the fans to fill the blanks.
Although I have my own ideas of how the story continues after the finalé its always good to compare notes. When it comes to time travel paradoxes there are infinite possibilitities and directions. In this case 3.01 concentrates on past and present in the same Virtual Episode.
IMHO the first episode has to entice the fan to become involved in the story. Making your audience feel what the characters go through is tantamount to the telling of the story. In this case I need to read more of the following scripts to get an idea of where the writer is trying to take me. I’m curious to see if the time paradox gets solved.
I’ll have to come back at a later stage for a proper review after I read more of the continuing story arcs.

    Kind Regards, Richard K

  11. @rvrevo – Welcome on board. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to voice them in any of the myriad of outlets that are available. I like to think that the time paradox/causality problems are solved (season 2 ended with them in quite a tangle), but one person’s apple is another person’s orange.

I hope you enjoy the ride.

  12. cheers mate, thx for the welcome. I’ll try to behave.

    RichardK
