The Green Thing

I was asked why my picture wasn’t green (it wasn’t an antagonistic asking but simply an inquiry). Frankly, I don’t care if there’s democracy in Iran.

Let me be clear: I care about human rights. I care about people having the government they want. Personally, I don’t give a rat’s ass if it’s democratic, communist, monarchist, or any of the other -ists. As long as a government works for the people instead of being imposed on an unwilling people, I have no qualms with it.

As far as Iran goes…I don’t know enough to have a valid opinion. I have my suspicions, but nothing I can pin to the board and say that this is the way that it likely is. I suspect that the government in power rigged the election. I suspect there is an opportunistic power struggle going on outside of the public protests. Beyond that, I simply don’t know. Honestly, given how pathetic our intelligence assets are in Iran, I doubt if President Obama knows.

So…I’m not greening my picture. I support the cause of the people having a just government. If the green was more about supporting that instead of specifically targeting democracy–which I have no clue as to whether the peope want or not, or if it’s good for the country–then I’d do it.
