Aug 14th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: TTSCC

Another video blog. My intent was to make it shorter than the previous one. I failed. This one comes in over seven minutes longer (57:50). Oops.

  1. I actually enjoy the hour long format you do, gives me a reason to sit back and do nothing for while (even on a Saturday morning). Was interesting listening about what software you use as well.

  2. Thanks. The downside of yappin’ for an hour is that a lot of people won’t make the time to watch it. I had intended to keep it to 10-15 minutes, but my desire for completeness sort of overrides my intentions at times. Oh well. Maybe I should break these up into more easily digestible chapters. Hmmmm. Maybe.

I should mention that Final Draft is the industry standard. Largely this is because a lot of the creative community uses Macs, and for quite a while ScriptThing (which became Screenwriter) didn’t have a port to the Mac. I’ve tried to love FD, but the fact is that I find it harder and more awkward to do what I want to do than I find in Screenwriter.

I liken this to the 80s, when the U.S. Government standardized on WordPerfect instead of WordStar as their official word processor. In those days it wasn’t even close…WP was definitely the lesser (poor UI, hard to use). I’ll play with FD if I have to, I’ll just grumble a bit more. (Though please, please, please, please don’t make me work on a Mac. After nearly 40 years of playing with computers, I find it the most difficult, most aggravating, computer line I have ever used. YMMV)

  3. I really agree that John being in a future is a good idea actually bringing him back to the past has no point. A lot of people think that Terminator is about J-Day and stopping it but not me since 1 movie(actually second he didn’t exist in 1 you know what i mean :P ) i have always seen that terminator was about John Connor. You can see how he evolves from a child to the person who sends kyle and terminators back in time. That’s easily seen in 4 movie it’s happening in 2017 or 18….or was it 16 ;P?etc. He still isn’t that person but he changes a lot at the end of movie. What I’m actually trying to say is that i hear some people that they deleted 3 movie from series 4th was off course i really don’t agree with it. I saw 4 movies before the series and i have to say in my head it plays like this movie 1 movie 2 movie 3 movie 4 movie 5 movie 6 whoops john connor is dead (mentioned in 3rd movie) Cameroon (appeared in 6th movie) ups we are going to loose daram daram back to time boom Terminator the Sarah Connor chronicles continues changing time to diffrent kind of war (like it is now in 3 season). It would actually make sense they said they are going to make another triology they just have to connect it to series. So basicly Cj you don’t have to change anything so they could make t5 in my theory t5 is before TSSC

  4. Well at the end of the day it’s whatever allows you to get done, what ever you are doing, done with the least amount of pain. I find user experience with software is largely subjective from one person to another, which is the downside of when one organised body or another decides that one size fits all and wants to standardise.

I found the details interesting because it seems a lot of people, at least as far as I can tell out side professional industries, still try to use word processors as their sole tool for writing. Especially these days when there seems to be many options for dedicated software for just about any task you are trying to get done.

On another note I was surprised to hear that the writers had actually intended to go back to the past in only 4 episodes! I had originally expected a minimum of 6 episodes but as time went on and the more I thought about it (and your episodes trickled out) the less and less sense it made to go back at all, for the reasons you iterated over in this post. If the characters try to head back from whence they came and pick up the strands of where they left off you end up asking what was really achieved by jumping to the future in the first place.
