Rec’ing On…Beijing Olympics – Part 14

Aug 22nd, 2008 | By CJ | Category: Diversions

Those Jamaican sprinters sure are fast! Not only did they break the long-standing world record in the 4×100m relay, they shattered it. Shame that the male sprinters of a number of countries need to take sportsmanship lessons. Thumbs up, as well, to the Russian women in their own sprint relay.

Two USA teams found themselves on the unexpected winning side leading them into gold medal games: men’s Volleyball and men’s Water Polo. While the Water Polo match was surprisingly one-sided, the Volleyball match was a nail-biter which saw the USA blow a 2-0 set lead to eventually win in the fifth set 15-13. Day-um.

And things are sort of winding up in Beijing. I must confess that even for an Olympics fan like me, come days 15 and 16, I’m starting to want to get back to living my life.  Thank goodness it’s only once every four years (the Winter Olympics are much much less taxing).  The big game, for me, is tomorrow: United States vs Australia in women’s Basketball for the gold. This is going to be one heck of a good game. Who will win?  Pick’em.
