Space Vision: A Whole Lot of Nothing

Jan 28th, 2010 | By CJ | Category: Snippets

There are a lot of rumors floating about what President Obama will opt to do with NASA and manned spaceflight. Much of this is based on the report Obama received from the Review of Human Spaceflight Plans Committee. While some of the rumors are doubtless based on administration “trial balloons”, I do think a paradigm shift is definitely in the offing.

What Israel Can Teach Us About Security

Jan 2nd, 2010 | By CJ | Category: CJ's Quick Links

What’s sad is that this isn’t even new. For years the call has gone out to do what Israel does…but so far it can’t get beyond the US’s jingoistic bureaucracy. What Israel can teach us about security – thestar.com.

Quick Thoughts on the US Spaceflight Report

Oct 27th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gov't and Politics

The Review of Human Spaceflight Plans Committee’s 154-page report was delivered on October 22. While it was an honest assessment of NASA’s woes, it’s recommendations were almost laughable.

Let Obama’s Healthcare Plan Die in Congress, Please

Jul 21st, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gov't and Politics

I’m so tired of talking about healthcare. There are solutions that work, that have been proven to work, and none will ever get passed because money brainwashes much easier than rhetoric.

Lobbyists Lobby For Lobbying

Mar 27th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gov't and Politics

Long time readers of this blog know that I place a heap of blame on lobbyists for the ills of this country. So, excuse me for not shedding any tears when lobbyists complain that President Obama is severely limiting their access.

Obama’s First Budget – The Emperor Overlord’s Initial Thoughts

Feb 26th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gov't and Politics

As Emperor Overlord of the United States, I have to give that new kid, Obama, credit. He doesn’t do things small. A $3.55 trillion budget. That takes some brass ones, it does. I should probably say a little something about this amusing little income/expense outline of his.

Fed Up With Partisan Knee-Jerks

Feb 25th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Snippets

Watching President Obama’s not-a-State-of-the-Union address in front of a joint session of Congress after his first month in office show in no uncertain terms how screwed up our political system is. A number of times, especially early on before the word got passed around that it looked bad on TV) when the Democrat-side of the chamber was applauding, the Republican-side sat on their hands in unison. It was embarrassing.

President Obama, Give Us a Yard and We’ll Take a Meter

Feb 9th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gov't and Politics

For all intents and purposes, the United States stands alone in relying on an inefficient and antiquated measurement system. For decades the cry has been that it will be too expensive or too inconvenient or too confusing to change to the worldwide metric standard. With the current economy in dire straits, can we really afford this ridiculous policy? Not only does it makes us look like provincial boobs, but (and this will get people’s attention) it costs us money. If ever there was a golden time to attack the problem with a bold mandate for change, this is it.

A Few Preliminary Thoughts On the Economic Mess

Jan 30th, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gripes

President Obama inherited on big ol’ pile of poo. Not only did his poopy-headed predecessor aid in constructing a culture of criminal greed, but the very fabric of our economic cloth was shown to have become something akin to tissue paper. There are some industries that, I believe, should be looked at seriously as targets for some major, if not innovative, re-think.

Obama’s First Policy Stumble

Jan 23rd, 2009 | By CJ | Category: Gov't and Politics

It’s amazing. President Barak Obama didn’t even last his first week before one of his boneheaded policy desires started fast-tracking through Congress. Though seemingly innocuous to some, the push to delay the digital television transition is capricious and ill-advised.
