The next step in getting back into the art swing. The first airbrush piece, a study of Raptor Dusk, got done. I haven’t really airbrushed much of anything for a while, so it was nice to get back to the rhythm of the dagger stroke. It was also a chance to practice on stretched canvas, which I don’t do a lot. Airbrushes tend to like smooth surfaces, and it’s time-consuming to prep a canvas–which is why I usually shoot paint onto gessoboard or clayboard.
I also have modified a bit my technique for photographing artwork. It’s a bit faster and easier than before. I still need to do some tweaking on the lighting, but other than that it’s good to go. Generally speaking, I only photograph for record-keeping or for studies. When I target a work for prints, I take it down to my preferred print studio to do it up all good and proper.
