OK, quick update. I mentioned before that writing loomed large this year. I’m in the middle of my current novel WIP. Still deciding to what extent art will be a part of it. It’s in the story, I’m just not sure the book will be the right venue for illustration. We’ll see. I’m also trying to digitally format some of my archives, but that’s sort of the low-priority task at the mo’.

Art-wise, I have a few things going on. I have been doing some airbrush technique tests to see if I can make a “signature” line available. If it works, this would be a commissioned line where I’d do custom art. I have the need for speed here, but I don’t want to drop my quality standard too far from take-your-time gallery level. Hence the tests. I don’t want to do it if I can’t make y’all happy.

cpwip01pract-180Because my airbrush studio gets bloody cold in winter, and I sometimes like to still do color work when it’s cold out, I’ve started working with colored pencils. Amazingly, I’ve never used them before “with intent”. New mediums take practice, so naturally I chose a practice image (still a WIP) with lots of fiddly bits. Learning a lot. Still not where I want to be, yet.

And I also have a scratchboard project that’s being prepped. I haven’t done one in a while, and I’m just itching to get back to it. (See what I did?) I love scratch and airbrush about equally, and I frequently combine the techniques in a project. I could probably call some work as scratch but I don’t want to unless that’s what its primary focus is. I have a WIP that will have a large scratch element, but it’s 50-50 whether I’d count it in my scratch menagerie.

So…that’s basically where we are. I am being busy. As is the way of things, many of these projects will come to fruition at about the same time. Floods and droughts seem to be the cycle.
